    NEW SHOES BABY GIRL

Wow its 2025 and its a whole new CoLA! I certainly didn’t have “CoLA under new management” on my 2025 bingo card but here we are!

I’m sure people have a lot of questions or perhaps have heard many different things about what has occurred but I can also assure you that almost all of it is pretty misrepresented and in some cases just entirely untrue.

I had a great group of people running the community prior to February of 2025, and all of the sudden they decided they were going to go do their own thing without communicating any of that with me or even bothering to bring up any issues they may have had previously. No one in the community we’ve all built together over the last 18 years except those directly involved even knew what was going on until it was done.

I am not going to use this post to run any one down though, I am very surprised and disappointed by the sudden shift in situations, but I was also never given any chance to discuss the situations that led to them and given no opportunity attempt to recompense or rectify any of the issues that may have caused them. So there isn’t much I could have done.

But what I can do is re-direct CoLA back to its original premise of free form roleplay and be far more active in the direct management of the endeavor because apparently somewhere in the last few years, it became irrelevant to keep me informed of situations in CoLA and rules and standards were changed without any real notification to me (even some sections of this website were altered from their original content) and done on the basis of what the prior admin staff felt was best practices for managing the community in a manner they felt fit their interests and unfortunately that apparently does not conform to the original “Vision” of CoLA, which was a vision I originally established in 2006 where our community was a place where anyone could come and roleplay and if their abilities and character were strong enough they could even end up becoming one of the major storyline groups of the city simply by being inclusive, adaptive and willing to help create stories and engage others in positive and meaningful ways that made the city exciting, dangerous and amazing.

I have been told that this shift away from my original “Vision” was in the best interests of “The Community” but it has also come to my attention that somehow in that process, many people felt marginalized, excluded, or straight out blacklisted from our community. And in that case all I can really say is that I am sorry, I felt our prior leadership had the best interests of everyone at heart, I believed that to my very bones and even now I find it hard to believe that they would have ever have done anything that would have harmed the community….regardless of what is now more or less self evident.

So again, not going to dwell on that, just wanted to ensure I put up an official notice. CoLA isn’t going anywhere, the old rules we established during the 2022 rebuild are now FULLY in effect. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. ALL PLAYERS ARE VALID. ALL ROLEPLAY AND ROLEPLAY STYLES ARE VALID. AND EVERYONE HAS THE SAME EQUAL CHANCE AS ANYONE ELSE TO CONTRIBUTE AND RISE TO PROMINENCE WITHIN OUR STORY.

Administrative staff and Faction Head Staff are now entirely decoupled.

All Faction Leads are Storytellers and have no Administrative position within the sim.

All Administrative Staff are simply background players and are builders/designers/support staff for the sim.

No roleplay will be dictated by the “people that run the sim” and I am, and will always be, your primary community manager….and my door is always open to ANYONE with any issue at all. You do not need to observe some kind of arbitrary chain of command simply to try to get an issue to my attention…..just message me directly and I’ll be happy to talk to you. I will ask you if you have discussed your issue with relevant Storytellers or Admin staff of course, but you can always come to me if you ever have an issue.

I’m immensely sorry to everyone for the upheaval everyone has experienced, but I assure you that had I been allowed to try to fix it, I’d have fixed it. But I was simply never informed there was a problem till the problem happened.

So from here on, we move forward, CoLA has a 20 year anniversary to see next year, and I intend to be here for it, and even if its just me and 30 people roleplaying and having fun, that is entirely acceptable to me as its better than faking it or shutting down and leaving and abusing so many people that love the city just because my feelings got hurt.

    Much love to you all.

    I remain,

    Suzanna Soyinka

  • CoLA @ SL SCI-FI CON 2023!

    CoLA @ SL SCI-FI CON 2023!

Hey all we’re going to be having a little promotional parcel at SL Sci-Fi Con this year! We were invited (several times, which I ignored cause that’s what I do) until someone I won’t name, that I think is a community member and an undercover Linden twisted my arm and offered to pay for our parcel themselves.

But since all the parcel fees were being donated to Relay For Life this year, I decided to just pay for it myself and do it.

Roark and I have been working on this little spot and I highly encourage everyone to get by Sci-Fi Con this year and see all the cool things others are doing and spend time in our little corner of CoLA there and meet new people and introduce them to SL’s oldest and best community in the Dark Urban Sci-Fi Dystopian RP Genre!

Have fun and see you all there after April 1st!

  • THE END OF THE BEGINNING

    THE END OF THE BEGINNING

The lore of LA was always designed to mirror our real world.

I never really knew it would be so scarily accurate at the time. But I have rewritten it and updated it for the 2052 Launch that starts its soft open for the main community group tomorrow.

You can read the story here: THE END OF THE BEGINNING

Here is to the Beginning of The End. Welcome home, everyone, to The City of Lost Angels.

  • THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

    THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

All of society is built on rules….and CoLA, for all its wild and dark nature has always had them too.

So as per our usual standard, while we will have a more in-depth set of expositive rules for people to read for specifics and details, but we have the usual starting guidelines we have always had, updated and specifically tailored to the new CoLA in the new era.

So head on over to THE TEN COMMANDMENTS to get your head around a quick 10 point list of how we’re doing things this time around.

Wooo 9 days til the group open from here guys, I’m jazzed and absolutely overworked and riddled with anxiety but, it’s gonna be AWESOME!

  • How deep does the rabbit hole go?

How deep does the rabbit hole go?

    Like….holy crap Batman…

So we’re now 40 days into the new build and it’s got so much depth it’s beyond belief.

The handful of people that have been allowed in so far have literally gotten lost the first few days they have wandered around, and we have so much stuff in it’s literally unbelievable.

Unlike prior builds of CoLA where I had to leave entire buildings unfilled due to prim considerations, literally, every public space in the new design has function and form and that’s just in Lost Angels itself, once you get down into Lost Beach the depth gets even more insane.

We have provided so many areas for RP and existence, from the top of the towering downtown buildings to the caves and sub-levels underneath, both of the CoLA sims this time are literally the apex of development we have ever done for the community.

I am literally gushing all over about how amazing it all has turned out, and I can’t wait til we get to share it with you all 😀

  • Paging Baal Zobel….Mr. Zobel?

    Paging Baal Zobel….Mr. Zobel?

    Gimme the fucking bunny dammit…

Does everyone remember old CoLA? It was full of my terrible sense of humor, and that won’t be changing much in 2022, the new build is just as chock full of awful jokes as any of the others.

For those of you unfamiliar, Midian City was one of SL’s earliest dystopian cyberpunk roleplay sims. It opened a little after CoLA went live in 2006 and was home to a great group of people. I was on fairly good terms with the designer at the time but his work made me look like a hamfisted amateur back then….used to always give me mad imposter syndrome cause CoLA was so busy, but Midian looked so much better….ah yes, good times, good times. But we’re past that now aren’t we?

“If there’s one thing you can always guarantee, it’s that Suzanna Soyinka has a terrible sense of humor” – Sidewinder Linden, 2010

I woke up with a meme brain today and started on the Red Palm theater so here’s a little teaser on that. This time tho….no still image STAR FECK movie, we’ll have an actual video cause…..why not I enjoy editing videos in premiere anyways.

So that’s a progress report for today, having a TON of fun doing this iteration of CoLA and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

  • RELEASE DATE – OPENING DAY

    RELEASE DATE – OPENING DAY

For those of you that don’t pay attention to say, groups, or notices, or happen to want to read the first article on the site for 10 minutes to get to the bottom…

CoLA’s projected opening date to the grid at large is March 21st, 2021, we are going to attempt to do a soft open for the members of the main +++City of Lost Angels+++ group by March 12 to 15, we haven’t gone solid on that yet.

So hopefully that puts it out there in big bold text 😀 I am having fun doing this build and making it the best we can for you all. Be ready to be amazed.

  • Everyone is a Blogger

    Everyone is a Blogger

    KIDDING!

Hey, all I think everyone can blog directly from their profile. I am not sure if these show up in the news feed or not but hey let’s find out.

If it turns out that everyone can blog to the news feed that will be cool but I may have to limit that somewhat if too many non-CoLA related things pop up. Just finding out what we can do with this fab new system.

  • Work in Progress

    Work in Progress

So you might have heard that CoLA is on its way back from the grave, and it’s true, it’s damn true.

Back in 2018, CoLA kind of started to spin down to almost nothing as far as total activity went. It had been 13 years since the doors opened and everyone that grew up there finally grew up and real-life came for them.

Back in 2018, CoLA kind of started to spin down to almost nothing as far as total activity went. It had been 13 years since the doors opened and everyone that grew up there finally grew up and real-life came for them.

It was a sad day for me on January 1st of 2019 when I decided to close the doors for good on an old place that had given so many memories to so many people, but at the time, it felt necessary, like it was finally time to take some time for myself in all this time I had poured into SecondLife and the community.

For a few years, I mostly took care of the Community Combat System network and looked after myself, I got my avatar together (after 13 years of barely ever changing), I started getting out into SL in general, finding places that I had never been and largely went out and tried to enjoy all of the SecondLife I’d mostly denied myself during the 13 year period of working for CoLA.

And for a while that was fine, SecondLife was fun, I loved creating stuff in it and always have, and with CoLA on the side, I started focusing on other things, working on CCS, working on mesh design, working on animations, and animation systems. Basically all the stuff I was already idiot level familiar with but wanted to become better at. And with COVID in 2019/2020/2021 I had a lot of time on my hands to mess around with various things, I opened a little romantic chill spot called The Clique to share with the grid, and mostly went about my way just trying to see what kind of fun I could have while doing what I do.

But as 2021 ground on it became more and more apparent that there were orphans out there, people that missed CoLA and wished it was still here. I felt guilty every time I talked to them, that I’d decided to step away from it, but at the time there was nothing really else to do other than watch the sim be mostly empty. And more and more as I went around SecondLife, with the exception of fewer places than I could count on the fingers of one hand, there was really nowhere in SecondLife that was a place for someone like me.

And that’s why CoLA was built in the first place.

So here we are now, it’s 2022, and my good friend Tempest Ella returned to SL, and she reminded me often how it would be good if CoLA came back, but I always told her “Soon©” as is my way with things that make me anxious. But eventually, she said she’d like to attach a sim to CoLA, if we opened it again, which I agreed to, and then like a week later she was like “Suz I got a sim, it’s time to build CoLA again.” and here we are.

The build now has been in progress since January 18th, literally a week after Phillip Rosedale returned to Linden Lab, and we are now about 3 weeks in and the progress is massive, this build is literally the magnum opus of the community in any year we’ve ever done a build. And while I have done a lot and invested a lot of time into this, I don’t think I’d have made it this far without the encouragement and assistance of those that have chosen to help me with this project.

So we’re kicking the lid off this coffin, the party starts March 21st, with a soft open around March 15th for the original community group. So get in, ’cause it’s gonna be a fucking banger of a time.

Much love to everyone who has supported us over these many years, I hope to continue to make you proud and give you a beautiful world to exist in for many years to come.
